Fast forward to middle of 1800’s, only the most deprived resided in the Old Town and the Gladstone’s high end tenement fell into very difficult times and a decayed state.

Today with thanks to the Scottish National Trust helping to restore and repair damage, has brought the building back to a once high end residential state, reflecting on how the wealthy resided in the Edinburgh Old Town tenements. Gladstone’s is today open as a historic site to the public for a small admission fee, restored, allowing all tourists insight into the past upscale living conditions.
