Dating from the 15th century, this well was once sited in the village
of Restalrig.
It was covered over and forgotten during the construction of the North
British Railway, but later restored and transferred to the present location
in 1860.
The ancient basin below the Gothic arch is kept full by a spring from
the nearby hill.
