THE OLD GIRTH CROSS
In
1573 this site appears on a map as an ornamental shaft elevated on a flight
of steps though later, it was from here that proclamations and executions
were made;
In 1600 the young and beautiful Lady Warriston was beheaded by guillotine,
for conspiring to murder her abusive husband.
Today the Cross is demarcated by a radiating circle of cobbles in the
middle of the street.
