The Museum of Edinburgh traces the history of the capital from prehistoric times to the present day.

Archaeological finds at Crammond, provide an exhibition which describes the life of occupying Roman forces in east Scotland almost 2000 years ago.

Another section uses displays to illustrate life in the Old and New Towns from the 1760's, and extensive collections of Edinburgh made silverware, glassware, pottery and decorative art highlight the skill and imagination of craftworkers down the centuries.

Other important or celebrated relics, such as the National Covenant (a petition demanding religious freedom - 1638), and the collar and bowl of Greyfriars Bobby (the fondly remembered terrier dog) indicate the diversity and intrigue offered by this magnificent archive.
