DUNSAPIE LOCH

Artificially formed during the construction of the Queen's Drive, this resevoir is home to many varieties of wildfowl including greylag geese, mute swans, mallard/tufted duck, coots and pochard.

It is evident that the water supply here must have been consistent, in view of the nature of the ground and the presence of springs.

There is no natural vegetation, hence the floating islands in the centre of the loch, which provide habitation for breeding birds
.

There are remains of a 2000 year old fort and a farm-stead on dunsapie hill overlooking the loch.
