ARTHUR'S
SEAT Dominating over Holyrood Park, Arthur's Seat is a dorment volcano rising 822 feet above sea-level. It is the highest of Edinburgh's seven hills. It's name has been documented since the fifteenth century. It is undoubtably a strategic look-out post used for military purposes and the association with King Arthur may be a matter of its use as such in the 6th century. The 'seat' itself is said to be the indent between the highest point of the peak and a secondary point a little way to the south. |
