THE WEIGH HOUSE

Situated where the roundabout is now at the junction of Castle Hill, Johnstone Terrace, West Bow and the Lawnmarket, the old Weigh House or Butter Tron was where large amounts of butter and cheese were weighed.

It was destroyed in 1822 to widen the approach to the castle for the visit of King George IV.
