Toddrick's Wynd

TODDRICK'S WYND

Dating back to 1456, the location was the backdrop to a fateful day. On February 9th 1567, Queen Mary and her train were coming up the Wynd, following a visit to Darnley at Kirk o' Field.

At that very time, James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell and his accomplices, were making their way down this narrow alley with explosives, designed for Darnley's assassination.

The Wynd was one of the 'bounds' of the Town Guard in 1685.
