REID'S CLOSE

Named with respect to Andrew Reid, maltster and bailie who in 1770 succeeded the occupation by the Earls of Aberdeen.

Also the residence of Sir John Nisbet of Dirleton (1609-87), an unpopular Lord Advocate of Charles II, and site to the town house of the Earl of Haddington in the late seventeenth century.

Nisbet's house was rebuilt as a replica of the original next to the Royal Mile School.

Reid's Close allows access down to Holyrood Road and Our Dynamic Earth.
