Panmure Close

PANMURE CLOSE

Once known as McKell's Close, the name change came about as a result of the construction of Panmure House in 1691;

Built for James Maule, the 4th Earl of Panmure, later illustrious residents included the Countess of Aberdeen , and Adam Smith, father of modern economics and author of 'The Wealth of Nations', who spent twelve years here until his death in 1790.

Although Panmure Close is now privately gated, access to the house can be gained through Little Lochend Close.
