MID COMMON CLOSE
At
one time this close allowed access to the High School of the Canongate,
and was known as Veitch's Close until the early nineteenth century
after John Veitch, a burgess who built a tenement here.
The Moorish effigy affixed above the entrance to Mid Common Close has
given rise to many urban legends, most prominently featuring the Moroccan
adventures of Andrew Gray, a youngest son of a local noble family. |
