GALLOWAY'S ENTRY

Lord Darnley stayed at the Earl of Winton's town mansion (Whitefoord House), prior to his marriage to Mary Queen of Scots.

In 1910 it was a refuge for 240 war veterans who has suffered difficult circumstances.

The old house is mentioned in Sir Walter Scott's 'The Abbot' Vol I, chapter 18, published as part of the Waverley Novel series in 1820.
