ALLAN'S CLOSE
Allan's Close, was demolished in 1932 when an extension was built onto
the City Chambers.
But although the High Street entrance is closed and all that is seen is
the brass plaque, like the ajacent closes Craig's and Mary King's Closes,
parts of Allan's Close still remain, underground.
Two
floors beneath the City Chamber's east wing, the remains of Allan's close
can be found and are part of the Mary King's Close tour.
One room survived, retaining it's 17th Century features, the remains of
three fireplaces a built in cupboard and stencilled wall decorations.
In fact it is this room that is supposedly haunted by Little Annie, a
young girl in a tatty white dress and boots who was upset because she
had lost her dolly.
Many visitors on the tour of Mary King's Close on hearing the tale have
left toys and gifts behind for her.
