CASTLE ESPLANADE
The Large flat area in front of the Gate House was built in 1753 as a parade ground for resident troops.

It reached it's present day appearance by 1820 and is used every year as an outdoor stage for The Military Tatoo and it occasionally plays hosts to pop & rock concerts with the lit up castle as an impessive backdrop.

Artists who have palyed the Castle include; TEXAS, MOBY, ELTON JOHN, TOM JONES & WESTLIFE

The Castle ticket office is situated here and the grave of Esign Ewart, and statues of Ferdinand Duke of York and Earl Haig are situated on the north of the esplanade.

The witches well is situated to the east and commemorates the large number of women who were burned as witches on this spot in the 16th century.
